Lakewood Winter Club at Nationals

There have been 102 US Figure Skating Nationals and Junior Nationals held since Lakewood Winter Club was founded in 1939. Lakewood Winter Club has been represented at 67.  A total of 72 skaters competed in 153 events including current Lakewood Winter Club coaches Ashley Haywood, Jessica Leatham, and Heidi Sullivan.

1953 National Junior Champion.  Patricia was a two time Pacific Coast Junior Champion and placed 7th in the 1955 Worlds Competition. She also toured performing for dignitaries including the Queen of England.

Judianne and Jerry Fotheringill

Joan Schenke

1956 Junior National Champion. The following year she placed 2nd at Nationals in the Senior Ladies event, 3rd in the the North American Senior Ladies, 7th in the World Competition Senior Ladies, and was a member of the U.S. World Team. She was expected to be a part of the 1960 U.S. Olympic Skating team but retired early to marry her high school sweetheart.

1959 Junior National Pairs Champions.

 Following the plane crash in 1961 that killed many top level figure skaters, they moved to the Broadmoor Skating Club and began competing at the senior level. They placed 2nd at the 1962 National Championships and 1st in 1963 and 1964. The Fortheringills also competed in 3 World Championships and the 1964 Olympics.

1977 Novice National Champion and 1978 Junior National Champion. Sawyer also was the 1978 World Junior Champion and the 1979 Prague Skate Champion. When she was 14 she was one of very few ladies who could land a triple Lutz.

1990 Junior National Champion. Davis moved to the Broadmoor Skating Club where he won the 1992 Skate America and Skate Canada. He also competed in the 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1995 World Championships, and the 1994 Olympics. In the 1994 National Championships he defeated Brian Boitano to repeat as the champion.
